Clinical Presentations of Ear Ticks in 31 Cases

Abstract:Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of ear ticks. Methods Clinical data of 31 cases of ear tick infestations were retrospectively analyzed with review of the literature. Results Ear itching and pain were reported in 20 cases, post-auricular or sub-mandibular lymphadenopathy in 7 cases, edematous erythema in 13 cases, and anemia in 5 cases. Ticks removal and other appropriate treatments were provided. Patients were rated as clinically cured at 1 month followed up. Conclusions In ear ticks infestation, clinicians should focus on clinical history and symptom presen-tations, as well as otoscopy findings, for timely and correct diagnosis and treatment, and to prevent occurrence of serious complications.
