Abstract:Hearing loss has significant impact on patients'social communications. Early detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation are therefore particularly important. At present, the improved newborn hearing screening technology has led to remarkable progress in early detection and diagnosis of hearing impairment in children. However, there is a long way to go regarding early management of the severely hearing impaired children who underwent cochlear implantation and post-operative rehabilitation. Improvement of hearing and speech rehabilitation outcomes is critical and challenging in this group of patients after cochlear implantation. In this article, the hearing and speech rehabilitation methods for children patients who underwent cochlear implantation, evaluation methods of outcomes, influence factors, problems currently present, and prospects in the field are reviewed.
