Psychotherapy for sigmoid sinus diverticulum-related pulsatile tinnitus:a case report and literature review

Abstract:Objective To report a case of pulsatile tinnitus caused by sigmoid sinus diverticulum treated with psycho-therapy. The etiology, diagnosis and treatment of sigmoid sinus diverticulum are also reviewed. Methods Psychotherapies, including suggestion therapy, rational-emotive therapy, music therapy and reading therapy, were applied. When necessary, doses of placebos were also used. Conclusion Psychotherapy is simple and non-invasive, with proven effectiveness. In the coming years, as utility of psychotherapy in clinical practice continues to grow, it may gain increasing acceptance in the management of tinnitus and help improve the diagnosis and treatment of comorbid diseases.
