Abstract:Objective To study emotional problems in patients with tinnitus, and their association with tinnitus;and to study cognitive conditions and other influencing factors of emotion. Method General surveys, pure tone audiometry and tympanometry testing were applied to 179 patients with a chief complaint of tinnitus, who also completed the Tinnitus Hand-icap Inventory, Hamilton Anxiety Scale and Hamilton Depression Scale to quantitatively assess their anxiety and depres-sion. Results Among the 179 tinnitus patients, 90 were male (50.3%) and 89 were female (49.7%). Age ranged from 13 to 82 years (mean=44.82 ± 15.84 years). Tinnitus severity and its three dimensions positively correlated with anxiety and de-pression. Tinnitus severity positively correlated with various factors of anxiety and depression in addition to the body weight. Age is an influencing factor of depression, and sleep is an influencing factor of anxiety and depression. Conclusion Anxiety and depression are important factors of tinnitus severity, while taking the influence of age and sleep on emotion and tinnitus into account.
