Abstract:Objective To study the value of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) in evaluation of health-related quality of life (QOL) changes in patients with apogeotropic nystagmus associated with horizontal semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (apogeotropic HSC-BPPV). Methods Forty patients with apogeotropic HSC-BPPV seen from March 2014 to May 2015 were evaluated using the DHI, before and after one month of treatment. Results The score of each DHI item was lower after one month of treatment than before treatment. Post-treatment DHI score changes were not significantly different when compared between the Gufoni maneuver and the modified Nuti maneuver. Conclusions Com-pared with the Gufoni maneuver, the authors-modified Nuti maneuver is similarly successful in improving the QOL. The DHI is a useful tool in evaluating QOL changes in patients with BPPV.
