Abstract:Identifying and protecting the facial nerve during surgeries are always a focus of concern for ear surgeons. Accurately locating the facial nerve during operations not only depends on the knowledge of anatomy and imaging data, but also requires an good understanding of key landmarks in relation to each other to make up for potential errors and limitations in conventional anatomical measurements. Meanwhile, complex facial nerve locating techniques must be streamlined and simplified to make them practical for daily use by most ear surgeons. This paper aims to review techniques of facial nerve lo-cating based on relational anatomy in routine middle ear surgeries from a perspective of clinical application.
