Abstract:Objective To study activity differences of the Default Mode Network between patients with long-term unilateral sensorineural hearing loss and normal individuals. Methods Resting-state fMRI scanning was performed in 34 patients with long-term unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (left side=17 and right side=17) and in 17 normal hearing subjects, with matched age, gender and level of education. The functional connec-tion diagram based on seed points of various brain regions in the Default Mode Network was acquired by pro-cessing obtained fMRI data, and compared within and between the patient and normal control groups. Results Compared with the control subjects, patients with long-term unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (USNHL) pre-sented increased functional connectivity in the default mode network, with more significant changes observed in the left USNHL group. Conclusion The default mode network in the patients with long-term unilateral senso-rineural hearing loss shows enhanced functional connectivity, implying functional reorganization in the cortex in response to hearing loss.
