Comprehensive treatment in adult patients with otitis media with effusion

Abstract：Objective To report outcomes in a group of adult patients with otitis media with effu-sion (OME) treated with a comprehensive regimen of combined therapies. Method A group of 56 adults with OME treated in our hospital were randomly divided into a control and a study group (n=28 in each group). Pa-tients in the control group were treated with oral medicines, eustachian tube injection and eustachian tube in-sufflation. In addition to oral medicines and Eustachian tube insufflation, those in the study group were also treated with auripuncture and tympanum infusion. Results The overall effective rate was 89.7%(35/39) the study group and 80.0%(24/30)in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Compreh ensive treatment includ-ing combined auripuncture and tympanum infusion appears to be a better choice for otitis media with effusion.
