Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy of tympanic ventilation tubes insertion as a treatment modality for pa?tients with Meniere’s disease. Methods Nine patients (four males and five females, aged 25~56 years) with recalcitrant Me?niere’s disease of no more than 3 months who had failed routine medical treatment received ventilating tubes in the affected ear. Postoperative change in symptoms, i.e. incapacitating vertigo and hearing loss, were investigated. Results Vertigo substan?tially improved in all cases after the treatment at 2-10 years follow up. On the other hand, 6 cases showed a significant PTA im?provement by 10 dB or more after treatment. Conclusions This treatment may represent an effective method in treatment of Me?niere’s disease and it may become a viable treatment option since it’s a simple and relatively non-invasive procedure.
