Abstract:Objective To establish the clinically applicable protocol for recording cochlear microphonics (CM) evoked by tone bursts using surface electrodes. Methods Tone bursts evoked CMs were recorded from 68 ears in 34 adults with nor?mal hearing using the Vivosonic IntegrityTM V500 System. Testing was repeated in each subject with the sound delivery tube clamped to rule out artifacts. Positive response rates to tone bursts at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz from the 68 ears were compared with the theoretical response rate of 100%. Results Detection rates of well-formed and reliable CM waveforms by 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz tone bursts were 100%, 100%and 86.76%, respectively, and revealed no significant difference when compared to the theoretical elicited rates(p>0.05). Conclusion The recording protocol developed by the authors produces reliable and repeatable CMs, especially to 500 and 1000 Hz tone bursts.
