Abstract:Objective To determine whether the automated benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) diagnosis and therapy system can be effectively used in the velocity step test. Methods Forty eight dizzy patients and 20 normal controls were randomly assigned to receive the velocity step test using either an automated BPPV diagnosis and therapy system or a traditional rotation chair. The asymmetry of bilateral semicircular canal results were compared. Results There was no signifi-cant difference between the two groups or between the two methods (P>0. 05). Conclusion The automated BPPV diagnosis and therapy system can be effectively used in conducting velocity step test. The system can be used either for BPPV diagnosis and treatment or the semicircular canal function test.
