Surgical Technique and Strategy of Autologous Costal Cartilage Harvest

Abstract：Object To investigate the surgical technique and strategy of autologous costal cartilage harvest. Method Dur-ing 2012.06-2012.12, 166 patients with autologous costal cartilage harvest for rhinoplasty or ear reconstruction were evaluat-ed. Appropriate design of the incision and delicate surgical manipulation were performed, while osteoepiphysis and perichon-drium of costal cartilage should be protected as well. After cartilage harvesting, suture of perichondrium was recommended. The incision of skin was handled with plastic surgical suture technique. Result Both safety and efficiency of operational proce-dure were achieved, without presentation of hematoma, infection, pneumothorax and any other complications. Conclusion Ap-propriate design of the incision and delicate surgical manipulation were the key points of the safety and efficiency of surgical procedure, and also for prevention of complications. Ideal results accomplished post-operationally.
