Abstract:Mitophagy is an autophagy that selectively removes damaged and depolarized mitochondria to maintain mitochondrial activity and intracellular environment stability.Mitochondrial autophagy is involved in the pathological development of rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and plays an important role in many processes such as inflammatory response, bone metabolism, and ferroptosis. At present, many traditional Chinese medicine components have been shown to slow the progression of RA by regulating mitophagy. This article reviews the role and mechanism of mitophagy in RA,as well as the research of traditional Chinese medicine intervention in mitophagy in the treatment of RA,discusses the potential of mitophagy as a new strategy for RA treatment, and provides a basis for theoretical research and clinical treatment of RA.
