Abstract:Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a chronic, nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease with an increasing incidence rate, severely impacting patients'quality of life and physical and mental health.Damage to the intestinal barrier is one of the hallmark features of UC pathogenesis, encompassing mechanical, chemical, immunological, and biological barrier impairments.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)offers advantages such as multi-targeted and multi-pathway effects, fewer adverse reactions, and lower cost, presenting broad application prospects in UC treatment.Extensive researches have demonstrated that TCM,by targeting improvements in intestinal mucosal barrier function, exhibits definite therapeutic efficacy for UC.This article reviews the latest advances in treating UC through TCM formulas and active components that protect and repair the intestinal mucosal barrier, aiming to provide reference for clinical UC management.
