Abstract:The term"Moyuan"has a long-standing history and can be traced back to Inner Canon of Huangdi.Inner Canon of Huangdi had a preliminary understanding of the concept of"Moyuan",but it was only limited to the cognitive level of the human body's physiological structure.Until the end of the Ming dynasty, when pestilences were rampant,Wu Youke creatively combined Moyuan with the etiology, pathogenesis, treatment methods, prescriptions, and disease transmission of pestilences. This led to significant breakthroughs in both theory and practice regarding the connotation of Moyuan.Subsequently,in the Qing dynasty, physicians such as Xue Xue,Yu Genchu,Liu Songfeng,Dai Tianzhang, and Lei Feng further modified and developed the connotation of Moyuan in their respective clinical practices. The need for clinical practice is the direct cause and core driving force for the innovation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)theories. An in-depth study of the historical evolution of the conceptual connotation of Moyuan helps us to understand the innovation trajectory of the Moyuan Theory and even TCM theories driven by clinical practice. It provides highly valuable examples and references for the current development of TCM theories, clinical applications, and contemporary innovation.
