Knowledge Ontology Construction Based on TCM Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for Coronary Heart Disease

Abstract：Objective To construct a knowledge ontology for TCM diagnosis and treatment guidelines,using the Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Chinese Medicine in Stable Angina Coronary Artery Disease,as an example,and establish a corresponding methodological framework.Methods Protege 5.5.0 was used as the ontology construction tool.The seven-step ontology building method was applied to define the scope of the ontology,extract classes and categories,establish object properties and data properties between classes,populate instances,and construct the ontology.After consistency checking,Neo4j was used for visualization.Results After data normalization,a total of 429 classes and categories were extracted from the guidelines,including 10 first-level categories.All classes were classified and summarized to form a seven-level category diagram.Based on the semantic network framework,20 object properties were extracted,120 instances were populated,and 23 data properties were created,including information on the dosage and usage of Chinese herbal medicines and proprietary Chinese patent medicines;11 annotations were added for proprietary Chinese medicines.Using Neo4j,the ontology structure of the TCM guidelines for coronary heart disease,the structure of etiology and pathogenesis,and the network structure of syndrome differentiation and treatment for the pattern of"heart blood stasis obstruction"were visually displayed.Conclusion The TCM knowledge ontology for coronary heart disease can guide the construction of knowledge graphs in related fields,standardize the development of coronary heart disease databases,and promote data sharing and interoperability among different databases.As the first knowledge ontology for TCM guidelines,it can provide a reference for the construction of guideline-based ontologies for other diseases.
