Abstract:In recent years, the incidence and prevalence of cough have exhibited an increasing trend, often progressing into a chronic condition and even triggering diseases such as asthma, pulmonary distension, and lung abscess.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)posits that the fundamental nature of cough lies in the dysfunction of Qi movement within the respiratory tract, attributable to either airway obstruction or abnormal Qi dynamics. The Su Wen·Ke Lun Pian states,"All five Zang and six Fu organs can cause cough, not only the lung",establishing a theoretical foundation for the diagnosis and treatment of cough in later generations. However, research specifically related to"heart cough"(Xinke)remains limited. This study, drawing upon the Inner Canon of Huangdi and other classical TCM texts, explores the relationship between the"heart"(as conceptualized in TCM physiology and pathology)and other Zang-Fu organs as well as the holistic system. It analyzes the theoretical framework underpinning how heart dysfunction can lead to cough.Furthermore,by integrating contemporary literature and experimental research,it provides supporting evidence for the scientific basis of the"heart cough"Theory. The aim is to construct a comprehensive theoretical framework to guide the modern clinical diagnosis and treatment of"heart cough."
