A Study on the Pathogenesis of"Five Emotions Rising as Yang"and Its Diagnostic and Therapeutic Development by Ye Tianshi

Abstract：Based on the theory of the"five emotions"in Inner Canon of Huangdi,Ye Tianshi was inspired by Liu Wansu's view that"the five emotions cause damage,all leading to heat",and summarized the pathogenesis of"five emotions rising as yang".The connotation of this pathogenesis can be specifically and detailedly divided into five aspects:"anger damages Yin,leading to liver Yang rising";"prolonged worry and overthinking cause stomach Yang to become agitated";"overexertion of the mind leads to heart Yang not being contained";"fear injures true yin,causing the dragon and thunder fire to be uncontrolled";and"sorrow causes both Qi and Yin to be damaged".In terms of diagnosis and treatment of this pathogenesis,Ye Tianshi proposed that syndrome differentiation should first focus on identifying the underlying cause,treatment should emphasize calming the emotional state,and medication should mainly focus on nourishing the Yin of the organs.
