Abstract:The Inner Canon of Huangdi presents varying views on the relationship between the spleen and the stomach across different chapters. However, these differing perspectives conceal a main line of academic evolution:the transformation from"stomach governs the spleen"to"spleen governs the stomach".From the perspective of the physiological function of digesting and absorbing food, the spleen acts as a"support"to the stomach in the process of transforming food, and the relationship between the spleen and the stomach is"stomach governs the spleen".On the other hand, from the perspective of the five Zang-organs centered system of Zang-Fu organs and meridians, the spleen is one of the five Zang-organs and occupies a central position, while the stomach is one of the six Fu-organs and is subordinate to the spleen's system. Thus, the relationship between the spleen and the stomach is"spleen governs the stomach".Therefore, this paper analyzes the relationship between the spleen and the stomach in the Inner Canon of Huangdi in order to re-examine this lost academic lineage:the shift from"stomach governs the spleen"to"spleen governs the stomach".
