Abstract:Based on the theory of"water transforming into Qi and fire transforming into blood"proposed in Treatise on Blood Syndromes:Yin-Yang Water Fire Qi Blood Theory, this paper systematically elaborates the application of the concept of"integration of shape and Shen"in the diagnosis and treatment of depression from the perspective of Yin-Yang Water Fire Qi Blood Theory.Depression belongs to the category of"depression syndrome"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Its pathological essence lies in the imbalance of mutual transformation of water, fire,Qi,and blood among the five Zang organs, wherein"abnormal transformation between water and Qi"serves as the initial trigger, while the dysfunction of"mutual transformation between fire and blood"constitutes the key pathological factor in disease progression. The treatment should focus on regulating Qi and water simultaneously, addressing both fire and blood, harmonizing the middle Jiao, and considering both shape and Shen to achieve symptomatic and root-cause treatment.By elucidating the TCM understanding, pathological analysis, and clinical treatment of depression, this study provides a reference for TCM-based management of depression.
