Abstract:Vascular dementia(VaD)is often secondary to cerebrovascular disease, with a high incidence and unclear pathogenesis.Cerebrovascular disease causes neuronal ischemia and hypoxia, leading to abnormal mitochondrial morphology and function.A large amount of strong oxidizing substances are released, ultimately causing neuronal oxidative damage. Therefore, the"mitochondrial oxidative stress"damage mechanism is the key mechanism of VaD cognitive impairment. This article summarized the research and reports on the mechanism of mitochondrial oxidative stress damage both domestically and internationally, and combined oxidative stress damage with the key pathological factor of traditional Chinese medicine about dementia,"phlegm",to establish a pathological theory of"phlegm-oxidative stress-neuroinflammation"of VaD,combining traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine.Based on this,we could study the repair mechanism and potential therapeutic targets of VaD cognitive impairment, and discuss the effectiveness and scientificity of"phlegm treatment method",to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of VaD with traditional Chinese medicine.
