Study on Deficiency and Excess Syndrome of Middle-Aged and Elderly People In A Community of Hubei and Its Influencing Factors

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the TCM syndrome and its influencing factors of the middle aged and old people in the community. Methods: We investigated the middle-to-old-aged population's TCM syndrome and influencing factors by using Health Status Questionnaire under Syndrome Differentiation System through take-site survey questionnaire. The statistical method of frequency and logistic regression analysis was using to analyze the TCM syndrome and its influencing factors. Results: The syndrome of deficiency of liver blood, syndrome of deficiency of heart qi and blood, syndrome of exuberance of liver fire, syndrome of deficiency of spleen qi, syndrome of deficiency of lung qi are the common TCM syndromes, which are cumulative 87. 3%. In the survey area, using healthy middle-aged and old people as controls, the middle-aged and old people in community who was occasionally eating cold food, men, and without diabetes can decrease the possibility to be deficiency syndrome. And the 95% confidence interval is 0. 103 ~ 0. 559, 0. 135 ~ 0. 812, and 0. 01 ~0. 762, OR values are 0. 24, 0. 331 and 0. 088. It was significantly increasing to be excess syndrome who was often eating cold food. And the 95% confidence interval is 2. 501 ~ 244. 548, OR value is 24. 731. The men and occasionally eating cold food can decrease the possibility to be excess syndrome. And the 95% confidence interval is 0. 04 ~ 0. 313 and 0. 07~ 0. 662, OR value is 0. 112 and 0. 215. Conclusion: The syndrome of deficiency of liver blood, syndrome of deficiency of heart qi and blood, syndrome of exuberance of liver fire, syndrome of deficiency of spleen qi and syndrome of deficiency of lung qi are the common TCM syndromes, which is cumulative 87. 3%. The TCM syndrome of the Middle-to-old-aged Population is associated with diabetes, sex, and eating cold food in the Community.
