Abstract:Objective:The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of methionine on the hyperhomocysteinemia model rats and to observe the change of lipid metabolism.Method:The rats were grouped randomly according to theirs serum homocysteine and weight. The gavaging groups received 1%,1.5%,2% methionine aqueous solution with intragastric administration.2 times/day (10ml/kg).The drinking groups drank freely methionine aqueous solution of forementioned concentration. The control group treated with distilled water. All rats were treated 6 weeks and the wastage of water and food, homocysteine,TC,TG,LDL and HDL in serum were measured every week. The stability and reproducibility experience was implemented according to the anterior results. Results:Drinking 2% methionine solution could inhibit visibly the natural growing of weight in rat.The concentration of homocysteine in modeling groups were increased obviously. The gavaging groups were less individual difference and better stable, reliable and reproducible. The concentration of TC,TG,LDL and HDL in serum had no statistical difference among intragastric groups but there were growth trend. However, the concentration of TC and TG in the drinking groups of 1% and 2% increased evidently. Conclusion:The hyperhomocysteinemia model rat induced by gavaging with methionine was worth extending for its distinctive feature such as simple operate, better stable and repeatable and had no effect on growing and serum lipid level.
