Abstract:Objective:To study the relation of β-endorphin (β-EP) in the formation of both the poor appetite and abdominal distension in spleen qi deficiency.Methods:20 male SD rats were randomly divided into the control and spleen qi deficiency group (model group),10 rats each group;metabolic cages were used to detect rat food and water intakes per day;carbon propulsion rate were applied to check the stomach residual rate and small intestine (SI) propelling rate (SIPR);ELISA and immohistochemistry were separately used to measure β-EP concentrations and μ receptor expressions in hypothalamic, stomach and SI tissues. Results:compared with those in the control, model rats significantly showed less food and water intake, reduced SIPR,and enhanced β-EP concentrations and μ receptor expressions of in the hypothalamic, stomach and SI tissues. Conclusion:the overrelease of β-EP involves in the formation of both the poor appetite and abdominal distension in spleen qi deficiency.
