On the Compatibility and Incompatibility of Inducing Diaphoresis at the Beginning of Epidemic Febrile Diseases
Abstract:The article discusses the compatibility and incompatibility ofinducing diaphoresis at the beginning of epidemic febrile diseases.Incompatibility of inducing diaphoresis means avoiding using drugs pungent in flavor and warm in property to induce diaphoresis. Yet,induction of diaphoresis is often used when disease is located in the exterior because perspiration is an important means of getting rid of pathogenic heat. Use of pungent and warm drugs can drive the pathogenic heat off the exterior of the body. On the one hand, inducing diaphoresis is good for epidemic febrile diseases because it helps to relieve exterior syndrome, but on the other hand, perspiration may cause impairment of yin. Contradictory views have been existing on this subject and it is very hard to decide clinically. The authors emphasized that compatibility and incompatibility of inducing diaphoresis is the unity of opposites. The aim is to eliminate the pathogenic factors and preserve body fluid. Dialectical use of compatibility and incompatibility of inducing diaphoresis may efficiently improve clinical efficacy in treating epidemic febrile diseases.
