A case of fingernail onychomycosis caused by Aspergillus oryzae

Abstract:A case of fingernail onychomycosis caused by Aspergillus oryzae is reported.A 21-year-old female whose proximal end of the middle fingernail on right hand had thickened and turned yellowish-white for more than a year.In the past two months,the nails on the middle and ring fingers of left hand had also been affected.Diseased nail clippings were collected for fungal fluorescence staining microscopy,which yielded positive results for hyphae.Fungal culture and strain identification confirmed the Aspergillus oryzae.The patient achieved complete cure after receiving oral itraconazole pulse therapy for 3 months.
