Abstract:A five-month-old girl presented with plaques on her right face for 2 months. The child began to develop red plaques on the right cheek 2 months ago.She was successively diagnosed as"dermatitis"and"skin infection".However, external use of glucocorticoid and antibiotics was ineffective, and the lesion gradually aggravated with local scab formation. Therefore, she came to the Children's Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine for medical treatment.Skin biopsy of the lesion was conducted. The fungal culture of the skin tissue was positive and morphologically identified as sporotrichosis. The histopathological examination of the skin lesion reveals epidermal damage, characterized by a disorganized arrangement of subcutaneous hair follicles and sebaceous glands, along with inflammatory infiltration composed predominantly of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and neutrophils. The final diagnosis was fixed sporotrichosis. The therapeutic efficacy of a 40-day oral itraconazole regimen was found to be suboptimal. It was cured by oral administration of 10%potassium iodide solution for 1.5 months. There was no recurrence during the six-month follow-up.
