Abstract:A 51-year-old male patient was admitted with massive flame burns.By post-burn day 20,progressive tissue necrosis had developed in limb wounds.Metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS)of wound exudates confirmed mucormycosis.Through the treatment of amphotericin B colloidal dispersion complex combined with wound debridement and dressing change, amputation of both lower extremities and skin grafting of the wound, most of the patient's wounds were effectively covered. However, the patient succumbed on post-burn day 57 due to hematogenous dissemination of Mucorales species with consequent fungal emboli in major arterial vessels, following family's decision to withdraw life-sustaining therapies.Although the patient eventually died,a series of targeted treatment measures might provide a reference for the treatment of such patients after they developed extensive mucormycosis infections all over their body.
