Research Progress on Rapid Detection Technologies for Superficial Fungal Diseases of the Skin
Abstract:Superficial fungal diseases of the skin are caused by fungal infections of the stratum corneum, hair, and nail plates, often accompanied by pruritus and skin damage. This disease affects more than 20% of the global population, seriously impairing patients' physical and mental health, and increasing the burden on public health. There is an urgent need for rapid and accurate diagnostic technologies to optimize disease management. However, microscopy has low sensitivity, and culture methods are time-consuming, making them difficult to meet clinical demands. In recent years, advances in imaging, immunology, molecular biology, mass spectrometry, and artificial intelligence have given rise to various new detection methods, showing strong clinical application potential. In this context, this article reviews the current applications of five categories of detection technologies for superficial fungal diseases of the skin, evaluates their advantages and disadvantages, and looks forward to future development directions, providing a reference for clinical selection of appropriate technologies.
