A case of fungal colitis

Abstract:To report a case of fungal colitis discovered and confirmed through colonoscopy examination,aiming to enhance clinicians'understanding of this disease.The patient,a 61-year-old male,presented to our outpatient department with a 7-week history of diarrhea.Electronic colonoscopy revealed congested and edematous mucosa in the colon and rec-tum with adherent white turbid secretions.Fecal culture revealed significant growth of Candida albicans,with a few num-ber of colonies(++).A diagnosis of fungal colitis was made.The patient was treated with nystatin tablets(500,000 u-nits three times daily)for one month,his symptoms resolved.Follow-up stool examinations showed no fungal elements,and no recurrence was observed.
