Clinical Characteristics Analysis of Four Patients with Pulmonary Mucormycosis Diagnosed by Targeted Next-Generation Sequencing
Abstract:Objective To explore the application value of targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) in the etiological diagnosis of pulmonary mucormycosis. Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of four patients with pulmonary mucormycosis admitted to Nanbu County People's Hospital from January 2023 to May 2024, including basic admission information, imaging data, laboratory tests, tNGS results, treatment, and prognosis. Results All four patients had underlying diseases, with clinical manifestations including cough, sputum production, hemoptysis, and fever. Chest CT mainly showed consolidation and cavities. tNGS of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid detected Rhizopus species in two cases, Absidia species in one case, and Mucor species in one case. All four patients received antifungal therapy for mucormycosis, with two showing improvement and two refusing treatment (one of whom died). Conclusion The clinical presentation and imaging findings of pulmonary mucormycosis are not specific, and tNGS can be used to improve the diagnostic accuracy of pulmonary mucormycosis, reduce missed and misdiagnoses, and improve the overall prognosis of patients.
