Trend analysis of colorectal cancer incidence and mortality in Suzhou,2012-2021

Abstract：Objective To investigate the incidence,mortality,and trends of colorectal cancer in Suzhou City from 2012 to 2021.Methods Demographic data and colorectal cancer incidence and mortality data of Suzhou's registered population from 2012 to 2021 were collected.Crude incidence rates,crude mortality rates,age-standardized rates,and average annual percentage changes(AAPC)were calculated.Results From 2012 to 2021,there were 31,653 new colorectal cancer cases in Suzhou,with an average crude incidence rate of 45.59/100 000,the age-standardized incidence rate by Chinese standard population(ASIRC)was 21.86/100 000,and by world standard population(ASIRW)was 21.48/100 000.The ASIRC was 25.80/100 000 for males and 18.17/100 000 for females,with males having a 1.42 times higher incidence than females.The ASIRC showed an annual increase of 2.12％during this period.There were 12,571 colorectal cancer deaths,with an average crude mortality rate of 18.10/100 000,the age-standardized mortality rate by Chinese standard population(ASMRC)was 7.74/100 000,and by world standard population(ASMRW)was 7.60/100 000.The ASMRC was 9.28/100 000 for males and 6.37/100 000 for females,with males having a 1.46 times higher mortality rate than females.The ASMRC increased annually by 3.90％,with a more pronounced upward trend in males(AAPC=5.43％)compared to females(AAPC=2.62％).Conclusions Both the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in Suzhou showed an increasing trend,with higher rates among males than females.Comprehensive strategies targeting high-risk populations should be implemented to further reduce the disease burden of colorectal cancer.
