Abstract:As afrequent complicationof low or ultra-low rectal cancer surgeries, the symptomsoflow anterior resection syndrome are mostlymanifestedby different degrees of intestinalfunctionchanges, such as increased frequencyofdefecation, urgencytodefecate, fecal incontinence, difficulty in defecation, and emptying disorders, severely impacting patients'quality of life after surgery.Low anterior resection syndrome is influenced and mediatedby multiple factors, including risk factors such asenterostomy, anastomosis height, and radiotherapy. With the increasing understanding of the disease, the pathophysiology of low anterior resection syndrome hasreceivedmore attention, andthere is a stronglinkbetweenthe two. This paper reviewsthe potential pathophysiology and risk factors andthe relationshipbetweenthetwo,in order to offer a more scientific basis for the selection of follow-upprevention and treatment strategies.
