Abstract:The interaction between cells within the tumor microenvironment (TME) is a critical factor influencing tumor progression and prognosis of patient. However, traditional omics approaches fail to truly reflect the spatial localization and communication information of cells within the TME.The emergence of spatial omics technology provides new opportunities to address these above challenges.Spatially resolving the TME facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the biological behaviors and evolutionary trajectories of tumors, marking a new paradigm in oncology research. In recent years, with the rapid development of spatial omics technology,it can not only unveil key biological behaviors such as tumor occurrence, metastasis, and drug resistance, but also may become a potential as powerful tool for precision medicine. This article reviews the principles and features of mainstream spatial omics technology in the fields of spatial transcriptomics, spatial proteomics, and spatial metabolomics over the past five years, and discusses their applications in cancer research. Finally,it looks forward to the future application prospects of spatial omics technologies in the field of oncology, and expects it to provide stronger support for precision and personalized therapeutic strategies.
