Abstract:Objective To investigate the potential relationship between Calcitonin Index of tumor Metastasis(CIM)and cervical lymph node metastasis, especially the superior mediastinal lymph node metastasis in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma(MTC).Methods This study retrospectively analyzed the CIM values and the metastasis of cervical lymph nodes, especially the superior mediastinal lymph nodes,in 61 patients with MTC admitted to Jiangsu Cancer Hospital from January 1,2010 to December 31,2023.Statistical methods were used to analyze the relationship between CIM value and age, sex, ipsilateral, contralateral and superior mediastinal lymph node metastasis,TNM stage, and recurrence rate. Results The CIM value was correlated with lateral cervical lymph node metastasis and superior mediastinal lymph node metastasis(P<0.05).Further analysis determined that the best critical values of CIM were 71.2 ng/L·mm3 and 145.4 ng/L·mm3,respectively.Conclusions CIM value has certain reference value in predicting cervical and superior mediastinal lymph node metastasis in MTC patients.
