Abstract:Objective To study the expression of nicotinamide phosphoribosyl transferase( Nampt)in breast cancer and investigate their correlations to clinicopathological features and prognostic significance. Meth-ods The proteins of Nampt in 83 breast cancer specimens and corresponding normal breast tissue specimens were detected by immunohistochemistry. Nampt expression was correlated with clinico-pathological variables u-sing the Chi-square test. The prognostic value of visfatin for overall survival was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier esti-mates. Results Nampt in breast cancer was significantly higher than that in normal breast tissue;the expres-sion of Nampt was correlated to tumor size, lymph node metastasis, clinical TNM stage, estrogen receptor(ER) negativity, and progesterone receptor(PR)negativity. High Nampt expression was associated with poor disease-free survival and overall survival. Conclusions The expression of Nampt is positively correlated with more ma-lignant cancer behavior as well as poor patient survival in breast cancer.
