A study on the observation of the effect of retinal photocoagulation treatment on ocular accommodation function in patients with myopia

Abstract：Objective To observe the effect of retinal photocoagulation treatment on ocular accommodation function in patients with myopia.Methods Forty patients undergoing retinal photocoagulation treatment in the Third People's Hospital of Huizhou City from July 2022 to July 2023 were recruited.The patients'distance visual acuity,near visual acuity and ocular accommodation function[including amplitude of accommodation(AMP),binocular positive relative accommodation(PRA),binocular negative relative accommodation(NRA)and binocular cross-cylinder(BCC)]were examined before retinal photocoagulation treatment and 1 week,2 weeks,3 weeks and 1 month after retinal pho-tocoagulation treatment,respectively.Results There were no significant changes in distance visual acuity,near visual acuity and BCC before and after retinal photocoagulation treatment.AMP and NRA decreased significantly 1 week after treatment(P＜0.05),and then gradually increased.However,the patients'AMP had not returned to the preoperative level 1 month after treatment(P＜0.05),and there was no significant difference between the level of NRA 3 weeks after surgery and that before surgery(P＞0.05).PRA decreased significantly 1 week after treatment(P＜0.05),and then recovered gradually,and there was no significant difference between the level of PRA 1 week after surgery and that before surgery(P＞0.05).Conclusion After 1 week of retinal photocoagulation treatment,the indicators of AMP,NRA and PRA in the patients'ocular accommodation function decreased,and gradually recovered thereafter.It is recommended that myopic patients receiving retinal photocoagulation treatment choose to undergo myopia correction surgery after 3 weeks of the treatment.
