Home non-invasive ventilation in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
QIN Zhi-qiang
Abstract:Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common chronic respiratory disease.Dyspnea, which is the most characteristic symptom of COPD patients, decreases the patients'quality of life.Hospitalization for acute-on-chronic respiratory failure of COPD usually makes the patients'pulmonary function and quality of life worse.Long term home non-invasive ventilation (NIV) has become one of the rehabilitations for hypercapnic COPD patients.Bilevel positive airway pressure (Bi PAP) mode is the best choice of NIV.High inspiratory pressure and appropriate NIV time daily improve the pulmonary function and parameters of blood gas analysis, lower the times of rehospitalization and better the quality of life for hypercapnic COPD patients. The treatment of home non-invasive ventilation in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is reviewed in this paper.
