Anti-rotation of proximal femur intramedullary nail and locking plate internal fixation for femoral intertrochanteric fractures

Abstract:Objective To compare the anti-rotation intramedullary nail of proximal femur(proximal femoral nail anti-rotation,PFNA) and locking plate fixation (proximal femur locking plate,PFLP) in treatment of femoral intertrochanteric fractures. Methods From June 2014 to August 2016,110 patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures were collected in our hospital and were divided into two groups, with 55 cases in each group. The PFNA group was treated with PFNA and the PFLP group was treated with PFLP. The surgical indicators and hip function were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in the hip function between the two groups(P > 0. 05). Compared with those in the PFLP group, the incision length was shorter, the intraoperative blood loss and loss of Hb were less and the healing time was shorter in the PFNA group(P < 0. 01). Conclusion Both of PFNA and PFLP are an effective treatment of intertrochanteric fractures. PFNA is minimally invasive surgery, and can significantly reduce the incision length and trauma, and alleviate the pain.
