Application of neuron specific enolase in patients with acute cerebral infarction

Abstract：Objective To explore the application value of neuron specific enolase( NSE) in patients with a-cute cerebral infarction( ACI) .Methods The serum NSE were detected in 60 patients with ACI( ACI group) on the 2nd day after hospitalization and 14th days after treatment and compared with serum NSE in the morning of 40 healthy volunteers(control group).Results The serum levels of NSE in ACI group before treatment were significantly higher than those in control group( P<0.01) .NSE in patients with large lesions and severe illness were significantly higher than those in patients with less lesions and lighter illness( P<0.01) .In ACI group,NSE after treatment were singifi-cantly lower than those before treament( P<0.01) .Conclusion The serum levels of NSE are singificantly elevated in ACI patients.NSE has clinical value in asessment of infarct size and the illness.
