Abstract:Objective To evaluation of the effectiveness of virtual reality(VR)technology in relieving pain during wound dressing changes in children. Methods Randomized controlled trials on VR technology relieving pain during wound dressing changes in children were searched in PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,CNKI,Wanfang database, and VIP database, with the time setting from the inception till April 30,2025.Then the literature screening and data extraction was performed by 2 researchers independently, and RevMan 5.4 software was used to implement the Meta analysis. Results A total of 11 articles were screened out, including 695 children. It was found that VR technology could lower the degree of pain and heart rate during dressing change[SMD=-1.02,95%CI(-1.47,-0.58),P<0.001;MD=-9.77,95%CI(-12.54,-6.99),P<0.001].The subgroup analysis results indicated that the children's pain levels were reduced during both the interactive game intervention using head-mounted VR and the VR video intervention[SMD=-0.84,95%CI(-1.09,-0.58),P<0.001;SMD=-0.77,95%CI(-1.28,-0.26),P=0.003].Conclusion VR technology can lower the level of pain and heart rate during wound dressing changes in children, but further research is needed to determine its effect on the level of anxiety and the time of wound dressing changes.
