Establishment of the norms of skin tear knowledge assessment instrument(OASES)for clinical nurses in Henan province

Abstract：Objective To establish the norms of the skin tear knowledge assessment instrument(OASES)for clinical nurses in Henan province,and to provide standards for evaluating clinical nurses' knowledge of skin tears.Methods A stratified cluster sampling method was used to select a total of 1 675 clinical nurses from the eastern,western,southern,northern and central of Henan province.Then,they were surveyed using the revised version of the OASES,and the mean,percentiles,grading and group norm scores were identified.Results The mean norm of the total score was(12.63±3.74)points,and the percentile norms(P25,P50 and P75)of the total score were 10.00,13.00 and 15.00 points,respectively.Moreover,the knowledge level was classified into the five categories of low,relatively low,medium,relatively high,and high.Finally,norms were also provided for subgroups including age,gender,department,education,professional title,working years,position,experience of learning knowledge about wounds,stomas and incontinence,as well as that of learning knowledge about skin tears.Conclusion The norms established in this study can be used to evaluate the knowledge level of clinical nurses on skin tears.
