The effectiveness of reminiscence therapy as an intervention for Alzheimer's disease patients:a Meta-analysis

Abstract：Objective To systematically evaluate the intervention effect of reminiscence therapy on cognitive function,life quality and memory of patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD),so as to provide theoretical basis for future intervention.Methods Randomized controlled trials on the effectiveness of reminiscence therapy interventions for AD patients were searched in China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang database,VIP database and the Chinese Biological Medicine Literature database,Embase,PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library with time setting from the inception to May 31,2024.After literature screening,data extraction and literature quality evaluation by two researchers,Meta-analysis was performed using the RevMan 5.4 software.Results A total of 7 articles were included,covering 488 AD patients.According to Meta-analysis results,the cognitive function[MD=5.04,95％CI(4.16,5.92),P＜0.001],quality of life[MD=4.87,95％CI(0.73,9.02),P=0.020],and memory[MD=2.79,95％CI(1.94,3.63),P＜0.001]of the experimental group were significantly better than those of the control group.Conclusion Nostalgia therapy can improve the cognitive function,life quality and memory of AD patients to some extent.
