The experience of first thesis proposal failure among master of nursing specialist students:a qualitative study

Abstract:Objective To understand the real experience and needs of master of nursing specialist(MNS)students after their first thesis proposal failure,so as to provide references for nursing educators and managers to formulate effective training programs and interventions.Methods Using phenomenological research methods,12 MNS students were selected after their failure of the first proposal,and conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews.Then the Colaizzi 7-step analysis method was employed to sort out and analyze the data.Results Three themes were found,including psychological dilemmas after failure,reasons for the failure,as well as the ability improvement.Conclusion There are many mental health problems for MNS students after the failure of the first proposal,and they need to be helped by various parties to provide personalized emotional support.In addition,there are still deficiencies in the training of MNS students,and the scientific research level of some supervisors should be improved and the training program should be further optimized.
