A qualitative study on the spiritual needs of disabled elders in elderly care institutions

Abstract:Objective To explore the spiritual needs of disabled elderly individuals in elderly care institutions,and to provide a theoretical basis for integrating spiritual care into their overall care.Methods A qualitative research method was used to interview 10 disabled elderly individuals in elderly care institutions.Then,thematic analysis was applied to analyze the data and identify key themes.Results Six themes were identified,including the pursuit of a comfortable status,search for the meaning of life,desire to return to social and family roles,longing for love and care,belief in survival and need for hospice care.Conclusion The spiritual needs of disabled elderly people in elderly care institutions are complex and diverse.Practitioners in elderly care organizations should address and meet the spiritual needs of disabled elderly individuals,through activating elderly care institution,the family,and social.
