Abstract:Objective To understand the experience and feelings of nurses in emergency department(ED)about delayed urination during working,so as to provide references for formulating corresponding intervention strategies. Methods A descriptive study was used.Fifteen ED nurses were selected using purpose sampling and conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews. The data were collected and analyzed, while themes were extracted using the Colaizzi 7-step data analysis method. Results Three themes and seven sub-themes were identified, including delayed urination having multiple effects on ED nurses(obvious self-discomfort,affecting work efficiency and increasing anxiety),delayed urination resulting from various factors(cognitive deficiency and environmental restriction),opposite attitudes to delayed urination(negative coping and positive coping). Conclusion The delayed urination of ED nurses results from internal cognitive deficiency and external environmental constraints. Therefore, nursing management should be fully aware of the harm of delayed urination to the physical and mental health of ED nurses, and take targeted measures to solve the problem.
