Effects of narrative education and medical escont experience to enhance empathy ability of nursing interns

Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of narrative education combined with outpatient medical escort experience on improving empathy ability of nursing interns.Methods A total of 127 nursing interns in outpatient department of the first affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-sen university between July 2023 and March 2024 were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group,according to a random table.Both groups were taught in conventional teaching mode,while the observation group was additionally provided with narrative education and outpatient medical escort experience.After the intervention,the empathy ability and satisfaction of nursing sterns were compared between the two groups.Results The total score of the empathy ability and nursing interns'satisfaction with the teaching of the observation group were significantly higher than that of the control group(t=-2.266,P=0.025;t=-2.196,P=0.030).Conclusion The teaching mode of narrative education combined with outpatient medical escort experience can promote empathy ability of nursing interns and their satisfaction with the teaching.
