The effect of health education based on LEARNS model on self-care and life quality of patients with maintenance hemodialysis

Abstract：Objective To explore the effect of health education based on the LEARNS model on self-care and life quality of patients with hemodialysis.Methods Totally 121 maintenance hemodialysis patients from November 2022 to February 2023 were randomly divided into an intervention group(n=61)and a control group(n=60).The control group received routine health education,while the intervention group was given health education using the LEARNS model.Results After the intervention,the total score of self-care ability,self-care responsibility and self-care skills in the intervention group were higher than those in the control group(t=-2.269,P=0.025;t=-2.121,P=0.036;t=-2.381,P=0.019),but the scores of all dimensions of short form 36 health survey questionnaire(SF-3 6)were significantly higher than the latter(all P＜0.001).Conclusion Compared with conventional intervention,the LEARNS model can better improve the self-care ability and quality of life of maintenance hemodialysis patients,and it is worth promoting and applying.
