Effect of continuation nursing for patients after ischemic stroke

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of hospital-to-home continuation nursing for ischemic stroke (IS)patients.Methods Totally 139 IS patients were randomly divided into a control group (n=69)and a research group (n=70).The control group accepted routine nursing care one day before their discharge,while the research group received a 1 2-month hospital-to-home continuation nursing.Both groups were assessed medication adherence,motor function and quality of daily living at admission,and 1,3,6 and 12 months after their discharge.Results The medication adherence,motor function and quality of daily living of the research group were significantly higher than those of the control group,but the readmission rate of the research group was significantly lower than the latter .Conclusion Hospital-to-home continuation nursing has been proved to be feasible and effective in the management of ischemic stroke patients.
