Effects of extension nursing services on breastfeeding after mothers′discharge from hospitals

Abstract:Objective To analyze the effect of extension nursing services on breastfeeding after discharge from primary hospitals.Methods A total of 400 pregnant women admitted to deliver between January 2014 and December 201 5 were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group,each of 200.Both groups were given routine health education as well as knowledge and skills about breastfeeding during hospitalization,while the observation group was additionally provided with extension nursing services, including a monthly follow-up visit and biweekly telephone follow-ups.Both groups were observed and compared their knowledge and skills about breastfeeding,the rate of breastfeeding and their satisfaction of nursing.Results The score of knowledge and skills about breastfeeding (93.57±23.46),the rate of breastfeeding (89%)and their satisfaction of nursing (98%)of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group [(76.81 ± 21.62 ),73% and 90% respectively].Conclusions Nursing extension services may help the popularization of puerperium health knowledge, promote the smooth implementation of breastfeeding as well as maternal and family satisfaction of nursing care.
